Affectionate. Labradors love absolutely everyone and thrive in a family where they get lots of attention. They love cuddles, brushing and play and need to be with another dog or their family rather than being left alone for long periods.

These custom pet art prints are seriously so fun! I love unique gift ideas like this – these would be perfect for the dog lovers in my life! Who wouldn’t love cute home decor with their pet’s face?! They have personalized graphic tees, too. #giftideas #pe

Playful. Life is just a game to your average Labrador. They love chase, ball-games, playing with other dogs and lots of activity. As they get older they can become a little lazy, but if kept at a healthy weight will often stay playful into middle age.

The genes responsible for coat colour in Labradors mean that black dogs can throw yellow puppies, black puppies or chocolate puppies. If two yellow dogs are mated, they will always have yellow puppies, but if two brown dogs are mated they can have yellow or brown puppies but not black. Often breeders have their dogs genotyped to identify which genes each dog carries, so they can get certain colours. The chocolate colour is the most difficult to get and therefore the rarest of colours.

The high intelligence, initiative and self-direction of Labradors in working roles is exemplified by dogs such as Endal, who during a 2001 emergency placed an unconscious human being in the recovery position, retrieved his mobile phone from beneath the car, fetched a blanket and covered him, barked at nearby dwellings for assistance, and then ran to a nearby hotel to obtain help.[57] A number of Labradors have also been taught to assist their owner in removing money and credit cards from ATMs with prior training.[58]

i have the most handsome choc lab he is 5yr’s old & he’s called Diesel, he is the most loving but at time’s want’s own space, which we so give him, his brother’s are a fisty patterdale terrier & a beagle, & they all fit together like it is ment to be, i am a chronic asthmatic & i had a bad turn a few weeks ago i was on the floor could’nt breath Diesel my choc lab stayed by my side & kept licking & ,pawing me, which kept me awake & allow me 2 ring an ambulance, he is my star. he just knew wot 2 do, he deserves a medal x

Incontinence is also common in old Labs, especially spayed females. However, some forms of incontinence can be treated with medication. Giving both you and your senior Labrador improved quality of life.

Labs are active dogs who need daily exercise and mental stimulation. Without it they can become bored and destructive. Provide them with the attention, training and activity they need or suffer the consequences.

My black lab is 4 and a half. We just had to put down our 14 yr old german shepherd a few months ago (his dog, but I still got attached) and that made me appreciate every single day for, hopefully, the next 10 years with my lab. he is my best friend and I cannot imagine life without him by my side. Also, now I am used to having a dog with me and I am worried about what will happen when his time comes that day. will I wait to get a new dog? Should I get a different breed or gender so I don’t feel like I am betraying my best friend?

As a breed’s popularity changes, its image changes as well. Now that Labs are everywhere (and make frequent appearances in the L.L. Bean catalog), they’re seen as a kind of everydog: not an aristocratic accessory, but the perfect family pet. Many consumers have bought Labs on impulse without understanding the full ramifications of having a 70-pound hunter in one’s home—especially if that home has a young child in it. Though playful and friendly by nature, Labs also have a fondness for putting small objects in their mouths, including, on occasion, a toddler’s nice fat leg. (It’s often recommended that families with children under 10 refrain from purchasing Labrador retriever puppies less than 12 months old.)

I breed AKC and HRC Labrador Retriever puppies and as well, offer stud service in yellow, chocolate and black colors. The goal of Love’s Labradors is to produce genetically clean health tested labrador puppies that are superior in good looks, intelligent puppies that have a strong keen sense of smell for the bird, antler sheds, cancer, have strong desire to retrieve, have a built that is structurally sound and balanced, be agile and quick to handle any agility event, flyball or dock dog jumping, have a wonderful disposition that are cuddly, warm and have a sensitive temperment that makes the best family companions at home, RV or traveling.

Sweet soft ears and loving eyes. Of the three Labs I’ve know in my lifetime all three were sweet, kind and loving dogs. Mallee has passed on to hopefully chase those dummies he loved so much and Atticus now lives in another state but is aging gracefully. Izzy our latest lab was brought to us after a chance meeting on Craigslist and has given us so much love and joy we don’t know how we ever lived without her. Labs are the BEST, hands down.

My mum was mortified. I went on to save my weekly pocket money for five years for enough to buy a Hungarian vizsla, a breed that was once favoured by Hungarian royalty and looks like it. It made #32 in the AKC list, two spots higher than its 2014 ranking, and frankly if it gets any higher I might have to trade her in for a more obscure model.

Hip Dysplasia is a genetic disease that affects the hip joints of dogs. (It is also known as degenerative joint disease, arthrosis and osteoarthrosis) and can lead to pain and debilitation in your Labrador. When canine hip dysplasia (CHD) was first described in the 1930s, it was thought to be a rare condition. Dysplasia literally means abnormal, so hip dysplasia literally translates as abnormal formation of the hip socket.Despite years of research and the combined effort of the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and responsible dog breeders, it has been impossible to eliminate hip dysplasia from labradors.Hip dysplasia can be seen in dogs as young as five or six months of age. In others, symptoms do not develop until after the dog has matured.

Breeders must agree to have all test results, positive or negative, published in the CHIC database. A dog need not receive good or even passing scores on the evaluations to obtain a CHIC number, so CHIC registration alone is not proof of soundness or absence of disease, but all test results are posted on the CHIC website and can be accessed by anyone who wants to check the health of a puppy’s parents. If the breeder tells you she doesn’t need to do those tests because she’s never had problems in her lines and her dogs have been “vet checked,” then you should go find a breeder who is more rigorous about genetic testing.

Ken Bailey: “Art and painting always came easy to me. I started painting in the seventh gradeand was quite serious about it from the beginning. My formal art education was through the University of Utah. However my degree was in Geography which has helped me tremendously with my landscapes paintings.”
