Even though a Labrador’s hair is short, he will shed. Brushing him once a week will help keep the hair in the brush and not on the floor. Brushing also feels good to your dog and helps keep his skin healthy.

They love swimming and fetching in the water so much, they jump in during winter. Even their protective side is cute, if someone comes to the door they”ll meet them with a deep, menacing bark even though their tails are wagging.
It is important that your Lab start learning his manners when he is young. Spend lots of time with him from an early age so he is comfortable with you. Roll him over, touch his feet, look at his teeth, and brush him gently. This will help him get used to being handled and he will be a better companion when he is older.
In the early years of the breed through to the mid-20th century, Labradors of a shade we would now call “yellow” were in fact a dark, almost butterscotch, colour (visible in early yellow Labrador photographs). The shade was known as “Golden” until required to be changed by the UK Kennel Club, on the grounds that “Gold” was not actually a colour. Over the 20th century a preference for far lighter shades of yellow through to cream prevailed; until today most yellow Labradors are of this shade. Also fawn has been a common colour in the yellow lab variety.
They’re a little bit crazy. In a nice way. My Labrador, Monty is unpredictable. I can be on the phone and he’ll walk right up to me, and for no reason whatsoever, lick my face then walk away…..kind of a drive-by licking. Weird but I love it!
Some people leave food down for their dog’s to ‘graze’ on. I prefer my dogs to eat their meals up fairly quickly, and have found that some dogs are more likely to be ‘picky’ if they know they can come back to their dinner later on.

My Yellow Lab when I was 16 saved me when I was suffering from depression and having suicidal thoughts because I was bullied. My mom brought him home on July 23rd, 2008. When I saw him at first I thought he was the cutest thing ever, however, I couldn’t stand his quirks for a couple of days because he was a 3 month old puppy that was full of surprises. Yet as time went on, I grew to love him and his quirks, my Luke makes me happy no matter how sad I get I know I have him on my side. He helped me with my depression and made me stronger and I am 24 now. He saved me from my ex who was abusive and from strangers that are up to no good. He has also made me protective of him as I do remember he was attacked by a pitbull that was off leash and aggressive and the pompous owner was being a straight up rude, when I confronted him when my dog was on his leash, he can’t even defend himself and he suffers from anxiety as well. So I went home crying cause my dog didn’t deserve to get hurt. He’s the most loyal, sweet, and my angel that I am immensely in love with him, I love my Luke unconditionally which is why Yellow labs have my heart but I do love all labradors.

Raw feeding is quite a big topic, and it is both complicated and simple. Complicated because we tend to worry about the nutrients our dogs are getting and we can’t see a list of ingredients on a meaty bone.

The genes responsible for coat colour in Labradors mean that black dogs can throw yellow puppies, black puppies or chocolate puppies. If two yellow dogs are mated, they will always have yellow puppies, but if two brown dogs are mated they can have yellow or brown puppies but not black. Often breeders have their dogs genotyped to identify which genes each dog carries, so they can get certain colours. The chocolate colour is the most difficult to get and therefore the rarest of colours.
In a nod to their origins as a hunting/fishing breed, Labrador retrievers are classified as part of the AKC sporting group, which means they’re willing to retrieve anything—from downed ducks to that Frisbee you accidentally flung in the bushes.

I have had the honor of having four labs in my life ! Dixie , Misty , Kody and now Cheyenne . I have had two black and two yellow ones . I am totally sold on labs as a breed ! They are a cling-on , you can’t sneak anything by them ! They watch you all the time and walk with you from room to room . You couldn’t ask for a better companion ! have never seen them in a bad mood or cross ! I live out in the country and never had to put a lead on any one of my dogs . They never ran away and I never had to chase one down ! They would stay close or walk with me . Maybe they thought they would loose out on a meal ? God , they love to eat , they will eat anything ! I had one , that would go steal an ear of old field corn off the stock and field strip it on my front porch and chew on it ! I never seen a breed of dog that loves so strong as a lab . When you go to visit some one , they like every one there . When you say your good byes and open that car door they are ready to go ! You aren’t leaving me , dad ! The money I have paid for my dogs was really cheap , complared to all the joy and love they have given to me ! They are a well rounded breed , the do anything dog as long as they are with you ! You are their life , their whole world revolves around you ! They are selfless , love to work and to please . I have friends ask me what are you doing on vacation ? I tell them I am going hang out with the dog , she really good company ! I wish I had more time to give her !

They told me the big black Lab’s name was Reggie as I looked at him lying in his pen. the shelter was clean, no-kill, and the people really friendly. I’d only been in the area for six months, but everywhere I went in the small college town, people were welcoming and open. Everyone waves when you pas…
11. Labradors thrive on encouragement. Positive reinforcement training has been shown to have far better results in modifying a dog’s behavior than harsh training methods. Researchers suggest training your dog well and early on to avoid any problems with aggression.
We work on a system whereby the owner of the dog to be rehomed continues to keep the dog, if circumstances allow, until the right home is found, as this minimises the dog’s anxiety. If this is not possible and a dog needs to be removed immediately, for whatever reason, we will place him or her in a LRSEC approved kennel.
I love my labs (Gidget and Mocha) because they bring so much joy in whatever they do. 🙂 They have an effervescent love that just never ever ends, tails that work as table clearers and their smiles and little grunts (yes grunts) make me just laugh. They pick me up when I’m down and give unconditional love ALL the time. I love my furkids. 🙂

Outside North America and Western Europe, the Labrador arrived later. For example, the Russian Retriever Club traces the arrival of Labradors to the late 1960s, as household pets of diplomats and others in the foreign ministry. The establishment of the breed in the Commonwealth of Independent States (former USSR) was initially hindered by the relatively small numbers of Labradors and great distances involved, leading to difficulty establishing breedings and bloodlines; at the start of the 1980s, home-born dogs were still regularly supplemented by further imports from overseas. Difficulties such as these initially led to Labradors being tacitly cross-bred to other types of retriever. In the 1990s, improved access to overseas shows and bloodlines is said to have helped this situation become regularised.
The world’s best dog can’t be defined by a breed; it is any dog that, when you come home tired and flop onto the couch, will walk backwards and forwards under you so that your overhanging hand can stroke it without you even moving a muscle.
Hi my name is Lerato,I’m 15 years old and I got my first labrador last October on the 19th to be exact,I’ve never spent a night away from my lab,Milkshake, seems like a lost cuddle whenever I think about leaving him….he recently turned 5 months and is growing super well!!!He is a gentle giant, and he’s a white lab with brown tipped ears, who enjoys swimming, jogging and stealing treats right from the box!!I love him so much that I talk about him 12 hours out of the day..I fear this may be too long,so I’m gonna stop.#labs4life#
