At 22-24 inches in height and 60-75 pounds in weight for males, and 21-23 inches and 55-70 pounds for females, Labrador retrievers are the perfect size for an active family: Not too big and not too small. Given the right amount of exercise, Labs do okay in an apartment but are best suited for a home with a medium-sized yard.

This sweatshirt is a good quality shirt, true to size and as the title says has a great Black Lab picture on it! It was bought as a gift for someone whose dog looks just like the one on the shirt. She loves the shirt! The shipping was prompt and as promised was here in time for Christmas! The seller has a good professional manner and is reliable enough that I would shop from him again.
It has been shown that out of all dog breeds, it is the Labrador Retriever that is most likely to be obese. In a 2016 published study it was shown that out of 310 Labradors, most were missing all or parts of the POMC gene. This gene plays a part in appetite regulation as well as indication of the amount of one’s stored fat. The study concluded that the absence of that gene had a significant impact on Labrador weight and appetite. The POMC gene mutation is present in only one other breed – the Flat-coated Retriever.
We’re calling it now: Labrador retrievers will be the AKC’s number one most popular dog breed again in 2015, and to show you why they deserve the top spot, here are 14 reasons why Labradors are such awesome dogs:
My nine month old lab came into my life when I was about to give up n depressed..and now everyday is like a new gift of happiness thanks to his pranks and loving antics. Cant imagine life without him. He’s always with me wherever I go.
What a profound question. It’s a given thats why I’m on my third one! Labs are the best dog out of all the other breeds. They’re happy, beautiful, fun to be around, great companions for all types of people and they are a wonderful size, not too big or too small. I love my lab so much because she is my “bestest” friend, great listener and boy what a great cuddlier at night!
I also forgot to note that I myself have a black lab mixed with 1/4 golden retriever. His mother was an american “field” bred chocolate lab, so in theory, he should be more energetic than the average english “bench variety” but he is actually quite mellow, and great with children, and the laziest retriever, lol, especially for a one year old. I’m not sure if the golden mellowed him out or what, but compared to other labs I’ve seen his age, he acts like an old man.
The first sightings in Britain of the “St John’s dogs” or “Little Newfoundland dogs” were in the late 18th century. The Newfoundland fishing fleet docked regularly at Poole Harbour in Dorset, with its catch of cod and other fish kept on ice in the hold. One day the 2nd Earl of Malmesbury, an MP and keen sportsman, spotted some of the ships’ dogs retrieving fish that had been thrown out and decided that they were exactly what he needed for his “wildfowling” – duck shooting.
Labradors as a breed are curious and exploratory and love company, following both people and interesting scents for food, attention, and novelty value. In this way, they can often “vanish” or otherwise become separated from their owners with little fanfare. As a breed they are highly intelligent and capable of intense single-mindedness and focus if motivated or their interest is caught. Therefore, with the right conditions and stimuli, a bored Labrador could “turn into an escape artist par excellence”. Many dogs are also stolen. Because of their curious nature and ability to “vanish,” along with the risk of being stolen, a number of dog clubs and rescue organisations (including the UK’s Kennel Club) consider it good practice that Labradors be microchipped, with the owner’s name and address also on their collar and tags.
For some reason merchandise with “Chocolate Labs” are hard to find…but you can always find the Yellow & Black. When I found this one I purchased two, one for my husband and one for myself. The quality of the shirt is superb and it’s on the heavier side but not overweight, it runs pretty much true to size and gives you plenty of room to add a turtleneck underneath without feeling confined and the sleeves are generous in length but not too long. The picture on the front is good size & quality. Washes & dries nicely inside out. Very satisfied with purchase.
In case you learn the lyrics to Led Zeppelin’s “Black Canine,” you will discover it’s mysteriously not about canines in any respect. The band named the track after a Labrador retriever apparel that was wandering across the Headley Grange studio whereas they had been recording the album Led Zeppelin IV.

They told me the big black Lab’s was Reggie as I looked at him lying in his pen. the shelter was clean, no-kill, and the people really friendly. I’d only been in the area for six months, but everywhere I went in the small college town, people were welcoming and open. Everyone waves when you pas…
Labradors rather than being from Labrador, originated from Newfoundland. They were originally companions to fishermen in the cold Canadian seas where their short, dense coat was an advantage as it would not attract ice during those freezing winters. When they were brought to the UK they were bred as waterfowl retrievers and were very popular among hunters.

Assistance dogs undertake roles where they may help their caregivers pick up dropped items, answer the phone, alert if their owner is in trouble, unload the washing machine and press the pedestrian button at traffic lights.
Even though a Labrador’s hair is short, he will shed. Brushing him once a week will help keep the hair in the brush and not on the floor. Brushing also feels good to your dog and helps keep his skin healthy.
Talk to the breeder, describe exactly what you’re looking for in a dog, and ask for assistance in selecting a puppy. Breeders see the puppies daily and can make uncannily accurate recommendations once they know something about your lifestyle and personality.
We work on a system whereby the owner of the dog to be rehomed continues to keep the dog, if circumstances allow, until the right home is found, as this minimises the dog’s anxiety. If this is not possible and a dog needs to be removed immediately, for whatever reason, we will place him or her in a LRSEC approved kennel.
The best way to find your size is to measure your favorite tee about an inch below the arm hole, lying flat. If you double that measurement, you will come up with the bust measurement of the tee. Compare your measurement with those provided in the product descriptions above to get an estimate of the best size to order.
The Labrador Retriever has consistently ranked as the most popular purebred dog in the United States for more than 10 years, according to the American Kennel Club. The AKC registers more than a hundred thousand new Labrador Retrievers each year, but when you take into account all the Labs never registered at all, or registered with another organization such as the United Kennel Club, the popularity of this stable, family-friendly dog is truly staggering.
We have a white and black lab ( litter mates), and they are remarkable. Easily trained, always ready, and very intelligent. They know their property and don’t leave the fenceless yard. They go to the property line and bark for the neighbor to come out to say hello. They know probably 50 or 60 words and help out around the house, whether bringing in the groceries, retrieving items, or fetching my son’s slippers.
